(This is a free flowing note)
It is also about dissection. (or breaking into parts or constituents).
Buulding up an argument in which the output is by comparison (hence, output of a binary "decision" about something objective ) or a series of comparisons.
The result is binary, hence, "logic".
Any "decision" is eventually a comparison. It is analysis when decision is part of a mental process (without acting), results in an intellectual predicate, that is descriptive. Doing analysis used the same faculties of decision making. But about past, not future (prediction) of outcomes. But it always involved counterfactual, so the outcome, as a mental product, implies some generative model that will produce decisions.
Decision about somebeing. Not a Decision to "do" something.
I am not trying to define analysis, but want to emphasise the essence of analysis is where it culminated to comparisons, implicit or explicit.
A report of a mental process in which the main tools are:
* Comparison
* Cutting.
